Program – Diving Adventure on the Great Barrier Reef

Day 1. Thursday. You arrive in Cairns, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, located on Australia’s tropical east coast.

Day 2-5. Friday – Tuesday. Diving certificate, you complete your PADI diving course Open Water (beginner) or Advanced Open Water. Theory, training dives in the pool and theory tests take place in the first days in Cairns. The next 3 days out on the Great Barrier Reef you will do a total of 9 dives. The first 4 dives are the last step in the diver certification, and the remaining are 4 wonderful pleasure dives plus an exciting night dive.

Day 6. Wednesday. Rest day in Cairns. During the day you can take it easy or explore activities such as rainforest walks, skydiving and bungee jumping. 18.30 in the evening you will get a Reef Teach presentation where you will learn more about the underwater world.

Day 7-10. Thursday Sunday. The marine project on the Great Barrier Reef. Now, as volunteers, you take on the project as certified divers and environmentalists. You spend 4 days on the boat out on the reef with a reef expert and get to learn about and experience the reef. On the reef, 8-10 dives are carried out for “Rapid Monitoring” surveys of coral health.

Day 11. Monday. Visits to turtle projects. From Carins, take a ferry to the tropical island of Fitzroy Island to visit a sea turtle rehabilitation center. In the afternoon you have free time to explore and enjoy the island.

Day 12. Tuesday. Cairns, departure day. You check out of your accommodation and take a transfer to the airport for the return journey.
